Today marks five years since Breeze Airways took flight out of Tampa International Airport (TPA) to Charleston. The airline is celebrating five years of growth and continued expansion out of TPA.

“In just five years, the airline has truly taken off, both literally and figuratively, carrying over 2 million TPA passengers. What started as a bold new concept in air travel has evolved into one of our airport’s most dynamic success stories,” said TPA Chief Operating Officer John Tiliacos.

Tiliacos said Breeze Airways now serves 37 nonstop destinations from TPA, making it the airport’s second-largest carrier by destinations served.

“The airline is connecting our community to cities across the United States with their signature blend of affordability, convenience and friendly service,” Tiliacos said. “By the end of this year, Breeze will be serving six destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America. From TPA’s first-ever nonstop flights to Costa Rica to brand-new service to Cancún, to flights landing in my home country of the Bahamas, the airline is expanding options for Tampa Bay.”

Tiliacos said the airport has long been underserved to the Caribbean and Latin America and is excited to strengthen the Tampa Bay market through its partnership with Breeze Airways.

“Since those five years when we flew our first flight from Tampa to Charleston, we’ve grown exponentially. We’re growing about 45% a year in outbound flights all over the East Coast and the country,” said Breeze Airways Chief People Officer Jeff Weber. “We’re growing very fast here in Tampa and adding international flights, which we’re very excited about.”

Weber said Breeze now serves 88 destinations companywide and has flown more than 16 million guests during its first five years.

To celebrate the anniversary, guests who sign up today for a round-trip ticket can receive a 45% discount using the code “birthday” at checkout.

“We’ve been expanding in multiple areas, but Tampa’s partnership has been really exceptional for us, as far as providing gate access and accessibility in the airport and expanding our options,” Weber said. “It’s been really helpful to partner with the Tampa Airport team.”

Breeze Airways has also been adding one new aircraft each month as part of its expansion plans. Weber said that as more planes are added, the airline plans to increase flight frequency to its newer international destinations.

To celebrate the five-year milestone between Breeze Airways and Tampa International Airport, the airport featured Caribbean music in the terminal along with balloons and free cookies for guests boarding their flight to Charleston at the Breeze gate.
