Travelers at Tampa International Airport (TPA) will soon have new international getaway options, as Breeze Airways announces nonstop service to St. Thomas and Cancun.
The new routes mark several milestones for the airport. The St. Thomas service will be the first-ever nonstop flight from Tampa to the U.S. Virgin Island, while the Cancun route will be Breeze’s first service from Tampa to Mexico.
Both routes will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flights to St. Thomas are scheduled to begin Dec. 16, with Cancun service launching Dec. 19.
"These two new routes mark exciting milestones for Tampa International Airport: Our first-ever flights to St. Thomas and Breeze Airways’ first-ever service to Mexico from TPA,” said TPA CEO Michael Stephens in a press release. “Both destinations are in high demand among Tampa Bay travelers, and the timing couldn’t be better as we look ahead to this year's busy holiday travel season. We can’t wait to celebrate the launch of these routes in December.”
With the additions, Breeze will offer 37 nonstop destinations from Tampa, including five international routes.
“With these new routes, Tampa will now offer service to all of our international destinations and be the first to experience our new service to the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO in a press release. “We know our guests will love these destinations and we look forward to launch this winter.”
According to the press release, flights to St. Thomas will depart Tampa at 2:39 p.m., with return flights leaving at 6:39 p.m. Cancun departures are scheduled for 7 a.m., with return flights departing at 9:55 a.m.
Tickets for both routes are now available on the airline’s website.
Airport officials also noted that U.S. citizens can travel to St. Thomas without a passport, as the U.S. Virgin Islands is a U.S. territory. However, travelers must present a REAL government-issued ID for TSA screening.
