Plant City will celebrate America’s 250th birthday on May 16 to honor military service members during the city’s “Berry Nifty at Two-Fifty” community celebration.

The event, organized by Plant City Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Arts Council of Plant City, is designed to bring the community together in recognition of the nation’s history and those who have served.

“We want to celebrate this day in a way that brings everyone together to recognize the people who helped us get to where we are today,” said Daisy Lumbreras, special events coordinator for Parks and Recreation.

The celebration will take place at Courier Field from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will begin with a color guard presentation.

Attendees can expect food vendors, live music, dancers, craft activities and a large birthday cake commemorating the nation’s milestone anniversary. Guests will also have the opportunity to contribute to a traveling community mural that will make its way throughout the city.

In addition to the festivities, the park will accept donations for commemorative bricks that will be added to a pathway honoring local veterans.

“It’s a great way to remember the fallen,” Lumbreras said.

While Plant City already hosts an annual Fourth of July celebration, organizers said this event offers another opportunity for residents to reflect on the nation’s history and recognize those who continue to serve and protect the country’s freedoms.
