A Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy was arrested May 30 on charges of driving under the influence.
At approximately 11:34 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Gunn Highway and Normandie Road in Citrus Park. Officials said Deputy Richard Garcia showed signs of impairment and refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises or provide a breath sample.
Garcia was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to testing.
According to the sheriff's office, Garcia has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
Garcia has been employed by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office since November 2020 and is assigned to the District I Street Crimes Unit.
