Residents can receive free wellness screenings on the first Tuesday of every month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bruton Memorial Library in Plant City through a partnership with BayCare Health System.
The screenings are available on a first-come, first-served basis for people of all ages. Shannon Reid, a library service associate, said the library typically sees five to 10 participants at each event.
"They are kind and gentle, and work one-on-one with patients with whatever they might need," Reid said of the BayCare staff.
The screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose and body mass index (BMI) checks. BayCare staff also provide general health information and answer participants' questions.
"This event is important for preventative health because if you catch something early, it's easier to treat," Reid said. "It's also important to stay on top of your health."
Reid said BayCare occasionally offers vaccinations during certain times of the year, such as flu season. The July 7 event, however, will only include health screenings.
The library partners with BayCare as part of its mission to provide free resources and services to the community.
