Volta Wine + Market is the first tenants to break ground at 400 Central in St. Petersburg. On April 14, Mayor Ken Welch and project partners celebrated the milestone inside the development's suite 136.

Founded by Michelin-recognized sommelier Zach Pace and Rachelle Tomushev, Volta will occupy a 2,000-square-foot space on the ground-floor at the Residences. The concept blends a fine wine shop and gourmet market with an intimate bar and lounge, according to a press release.

“Today we are celebrating the future of Central Avenue and the continued evolution 400 Central has brought on,” said Mayor Ken Welch in a press release. “Businesses like Volta show the demand for concepts that bring people together in meaningful ways.”

The space will offer a warm, design-forward interior that is intentionally avoiding modern technology. Instead, the concept leans into nostalgia, incorporating vinyl records and and record players to create a more conversation-driven experience.

“St. Pete’s allure is that balance of nostalgia and modern energy. Our community’s authenticity and dedication to local entrepreneurship is constant, even as the city grows. It’s what has inspired us to build Volta Wine + Market, said Pace in a press release. “We’re pairing the experience of vinyl and the intimacy of a neighborhood wine shop with a fresh, modern market and lounge experience. It’s a space where longtime locals will feel at home and new residents will feel instantly connected, a place that bridges St. Pete’s history with its next chapter.”

Volta will over more than 300 bottles of wines from around the world, along with pantry staples and products focused on clean ingredients.

The bar and lounge will host tastings, meetings and private gatherings, with a rotating selection of wines by the glass, craft beer, sake and nonalcoholic options.

“Our intention with Volta is to design something that feels layered and deeply rooted in St. Pete’s character,” said Tomushev in a press release. “We’re pouring over every detail, from the textures and lighting to the layout and product selection., It’s all thoughtfully curated to create a space that invites you to slow down and appreciate craftsmanship. The vibe is stylish, timeless, and down-to-earth. We can't wait to welcome each and every guest.”

City officials said the project represents continued reinvestment along Central Ave.

Volta is currently offering investors the opportunity to become founding members as the concept moves towards completion. The business is expected to open in early summer.
