Travelers can expect multiple road closures and detours in downtown Tampa from May 18 through May 30.

City officials are warning drivers that North Tampa Street will be reduced to one lane as crews demolish a building in the area. Officials encourage motorists to plan ahead and expect delays.

Alternate Routes:

  • From the north: use Scott St. eastbound to Jefferson St. southbound

  • From I-275 northbound: take Downtown East / Scott St.  (Exit 44) to Jefferson St. southbound

  • From I-275 southbound and I-4 westbound: take Downtown East / Jefferson St. (Exit 45A) to Pierce St. southbound

The city recommends drivers heading into or through downtown allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes to avoid congestion.

In addition, Tampa will host the annual Special Operations Forces military conference, commonly known as SOF Week, from May 18 through May 22. During the event, travelers should expect increased traffic, temporary road closures and loud noises associated with military demonstrations and aircraft activity.

Franklin Street outside the Tampa Convention Center, from Channelside Drive to Harbour Island, including the bride, will be closed during these times:

  • Monday, May 18 – Thursday, May 21: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

  • Friday, May 22: 8:00 AM to 4:00 (Northbound Franklin St., Water St. intersection, and Harbour Island Bridge will reopen at 1pm)

Drivers looking for alternate routes can use the Beneficial Drive Bridge toward Sparkman Wharf and The Florida Aquarium.

The Tampa Convention Center parking garage will also be closed during SOF Week. Drivers are encouraged to use the Pam Iorio Parking Garage instead.

Boat traffic will also be restricted in the marina basin adjacent to the Tampa Convention Center from May 19 through May 21 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Officials advise motorists to avoid affected areas when possible and prepare for heavier-than-normal traffic in downtown Tampa through May 30.
